Jerry Seinfeld Takes President Obama For A Ride

Categories: Top Stories

obama-seinfeld-comedians-in-carsAfter sharing a ride and a few stories with the likes of Amy Schumer, Stephen Colbert and Louis C.K., the latest episode of Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee saw Jerry Seinfeld bend the rules a little and pick a man who’s “gotten off just enough funny lines to qualify for this show.”

The season 7 premier, which was posted online on Wednesday, saw Seinfeld pulling up to the White House in a 1963 Corvette Stingray Split Window Coupe to call on President Barack Obama. Despite being the most powerful politician on Earth, however, even Obama wasn’t allowed to slip past security and the show had to take place on the White House grounds. Cue the surreal footage of Seinfeld and Obama driving around in circles in a vintage sports car, with president driving one handed and not doing that “whole 10 and 2 thing.”

After Seinfeld showed him the Corvette, Obama was keen to show off his presidential Cadillac limousine affectionately known as “The Beast”. Obama deadpanned that he “call a nuclear submarine right from here,” then teased Seinfeld: “You don’t have that do you? Its a cool feature. Plus it has seat warmers.”

The show was generally lighthearted but Seinfeld did ask a couple of questions that had the president reflecting, most notably on losing his anonymity, cursing a lot to deal with the stresses of the job and the strangest night at the White House being the first night. But pretty soon it was back to the knockabout humor. Revelations included that Teddy Roosevelt would be the leader Obama would love to hang out with most, all his underwear is one brand and one color and that he has a closet like normal people.

Much like his appearance on Zach Galifianakis’ Between Two Ferns, Obama admitted that he only agreed to do the show so he could promote Obamacare and encourage enrollments and he managed to squeeze in a plug towards the end although Seinfeld made it as awkward as possible.

Lucas Talks Disney

Categories: Uncategorized

glWhile Disney has to be pleased with the way its $4 billion acquisition of Lucasfilm is turning out, thanks to the galactic success of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” the man who created the “Star Wars” universe doesn’t feel the same way.

In an interview with Charlie Rose, George Lucas spoke about everything from his and Disney’s branching vision to the deal itself. Lucas, who has always been protective of his series and even refers to them as his “kids,” hasn’t been looking back well on the deal with Disney (via Collider).

“I sold them to the white slavers that takes these things, and…,” Lucas said before laughing and deciding it better not to finish.

The father of “Star Wars” also opened up about why he and Disney were split on their decisions for the franchise’s future.

“They looked at the stories, and they said, ‘We want to make something for the fans,’” Lucas said. “They decided they didn’t want to use those stories, they decided they were going to do their own thing. … They weren’t that keen to have me involved anyway — but if I get in there, I’m just going to cause trouble, because they’re not going to do what I want them to do. And I don’t have the control to do that anymore, and all I would do is muck everything up,” he said. “And so I said, ‘OK, I will go my way, and I’ll let them go their way.’”

“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” has been a massive success in the two weeks it has been out, becoming the ninth-highest box office performer ever with $1.23 billion in global box office receipts.

Samuel L. Jackson Talks

Categories: Uncategorized

samSamuel L. Jackson gave an interview with the Hollywood Reporter in which he said on hearing about the December murders in San Bernardino, he had wished the killers were white and not Muslim.

“When that thing happened in France, we were sitting there going, ‘Oh, my God, these terrorists!’ And I can’t even tell you how much that day the thing that happened in San Bernardino — I was in Hawaii — how much I really wanted that to just be another, you know, crazy white dude, and not really some Muslims, because it’s like: ‘Oh, s**t. It’s here. And it’s here in another kind of way,’” Jackson said. “Now, okay, it happened on an Army base and it happened somewhere else. But now? It’s like they have a legitimate reason now to look at your Muslim neighbor, friend, whatever in another way. And they become the new young black men.”

In the wide-ranging interview, covering everything from his career to world affairs, the “Hateful Eight” star elaborated that for years Americans had “been kind of shielded from what the rest of the world’s been dealing with. I remember the first time I left the country — in 1980 I went to London — I knew a little bit about the Irish and the English and what was happening, and then something blew up around the corner from where I was, and I was kind of like, ‘Woah, what was that?’ And they say, ‘Oh, Irish terrorists.’ It was the first time I’d heard the word ‘terrorists.’ ‘Oh, what do you mean?’ And then I started seeing signs in the tube — ‘Don’t pick up untended packages.’ That was the first, ‘If you see something, say something.’ So I started thinking about it.”

Jackson said terrorism became America’s problem when “Bush and those guys put us in that fight. And as soon as we drew blood in that war, we became part of something that’s been going on for thousands of years. It’s like, ‘Well, you killed my cousin Akhbar,’ duh-duh-duh, and it’s like, ‘Oh, shit.’ So we’ll never be out of it now because people hold on to grudges in that kind of way — we’re the Hatfields and the McCoys in the world. So that’s happened.”

Jackson also weighed in on the 2016 presidential campaign, distancing himself from his sometime golf partner Donald Trump, but also trashing Trump’s competitors for the GOP nomination. “There are some other people that aren’t as open about what he’s saying that are running also, you know, that are just as crazy, that have just as much ill-will toward the common man — and not just the common black man. People who don’t have a certain amount of money don’t mean anything to them.”

Jackson said he’ll be voting for Hillary Clinton. “I’m forever a Democrat, you know, and I’m gonna vote for Hillary. I mean, I love Bernie — Bernie’s a man of the people — but he can’t win. So I gotta cast my vote for a person that can keep those other people from winning, okay?”

Ian “Lemmy” KilmisteIan Passes Away At 70

Categories: Uncategorized

lemIan “Lemmy” Kilmister, the hard-living, hell-raising frontman for British heavy metal band Motorhead, has died at age 70 after recently being diagnosed with an aggressive cancer, the band said on its Facebook page on Monday.

On stage with Motorhead, the bassist and vocalist was famed for turning his amplifiers up to the max, and tilting his face, dotted with moles and framed by muttonchops, up to the sky. He growled into his raised microphone with a throat he said he fed for decades with a bottle a day of Jack Daniel’s whiskey.

“You know I’m born to lose, and gambling’s for fools, but that’s the way I like it baby, I don’t wanna live forever,” went his signature song, the 1980s anthem “Ace of Spades.”

The hard living – including years of amphetamine use – had taken its toll and Lemmy struggled with a number of health issues in recent years.

In 2013, the band canceled European summer festival appearances after he reportedly suffered a hematoma, and he told Rolling Stone magazine in 2014 he had seriously cut back on his drinking and smoking.

“We cannot begin to express our shock and sadness, there aren’t words,” Motorhead said in its Facebook posting about Lemmy’s death. “We will say more in the coming days, but for now, please play Motörhead loud, play Hawkwind loud, play Lemmy’s music LOUD. Have a drink or few.

After cutting his teeth in beat bands in the 1960s, he spent time as a roadie for Jimi Hendrix before his first taste of stardom with British space rockers Hawkwind, singing the band’s biggest hit, biker anthem Silver Machine, in 1972.

During his stint in the band, Lemmy’s pummeling bass lines became a stock-in-trade and provided the backbone of the ear-splitting Motorhead, which he formed in 1975 after being thrown out of Hawkwind following a drug bust in Canada.

After a bumpy start and early lineup changes, the trio of Lemmy, guitarist “Fast” Eddie Clarke and drummer Phil “Philthy Animal” Taylor, tore through a string of albums that fed off the energy of punk rock and helped inspire thrash metal.

Between early 1979 and late 1980, “Overkill,” “Bomber” and “Ace of Spades” sent the band racing toward the upper reaches of the British album charts. In 1981, Motorhead finally hit No. 1 with its live classic, “No Sleep ’til Hammersmith.”

Lemmy, who was born in England in 1945, lived in Los Angeles, near the Sunset Strip, for decades and was controversial for his collection of Nazi memorabilia.

Motorhead recorded 22 studio albums.

Sarah Jones’ Father Opposes Early Release For ‘Midnight Rider’ Director

Categories: Uncategorized

sarahThe father of Sarah Jones, the camera assistant who was killed last year on the “Midnight Rider” set, has opposed a reduced jail term for director Randall Miller.

In letters sent Monday to Wayne County Superior Court Judge Anthony L. Harrison and Sheriff John Carter, Richard Jones asked that Miller serve the full two-year sentence. The term was imposed after Miller pleaded guilty to felony involuntary manslaughter and criminal trespass in the Feb. 20, 2014, train accident that killed Sarah Jones and injured eight others.

The letter was filed three weeks after Miller’s lawyer had sought leniency for Miller. Attorney Ed Garland had cited Miller’s model behavior as well as deteriorating health in seeking a reduction of his time in custody.

“I truly seek healing for all involved,” Jones said. “There is, however, a need for accountability. It is, after all, apparent that Mr. Miller and his co-defendants displayed gross negligence and a reckless disregard for the safety of their cast and crew.”

Jones noted that Miller had “willingly” entered into the agreement for two years in jail and eight years of probation.

“Beyond Mr. Miller and his co-defendants, there is a need to maintain a strong message to the film industry that those in charge of their cast and crew will be held responsible for their safety … that such recklessness for safety will not be tolerated,” Jones wrote.

“The motion states that Mr. Miller’s family and friends miss him. I can understand and relate to this. But there is a difference. Mr. Miller will return home. Sarah never will.”

Jones also said the letters supporting Garland’s motion are “riddled with untruths and misconception,” noting that one is from Miller’s father-in-law and the other is from Miller’s retired neighbor. He also disputed Garland’s assertion that the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department has a policy whereby inmates can earn “two-for-one credit” for good behavior.

“It was with the understanding that Mr. Miller would serve the full two years in jail for which Elizabeth (Sarah’s mother) and I agreed to accept the plea terms,” he said.

Jones also included an excerpt from an open letter sent to Miller from injured crew member Izabeau Giannakopoulos, who helped pull Miller off the train track: “You are not wrong in feeling that you are not the only person to have made a mistake. It does not mean that you should be exempt or relieved of your penalty. We all have had to accept the circumstances of the aftermath. Each person has had their own, and this is yours.”

Garland noted in the Dec. 7 motion that the 53-year-old director had gained 39 pounds over several weeks and that a nurse had recently found that his blood pressure was elevated. Garland also said Miller had complained of shortness of breath and a persistent cough.

Camera assistant Jones was killed when the production of “Midnight Rider” was shooting on a train trestle near Jesup, Ga., and a train came, forcing cast and crew that didn’t anticipate it to scramble for safety. The production company did not secure a permit from the owner of the tracks, CSX Transportation Corp. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration issued nearly $75,000 in safety fines.

An appeals panel upheld the sanctions after they were challenged by Film Allman, the company that Miller and his wife, Jody Savin, set up to make the independent feature.

News that Jones had opposed early release was first reported by Deadline Hollywood.

Harlem Globetrotters Star Meadowlark Lemon Passes Away At 83

Categories: Uncategorized

mdMeadowlark Lemon, who became known as the “Clown Prince of Basketball” during a run of more than two decades as a member of the Harlem Globetrotters, died Sunday. He was 83.

Globetrotters spokesman Brett Meister said Lemon’s wife and daughter confirmed to the team that he died Sunday in Scottsdale, Ariz. Meister did not know the cause of death.

A North Carolina native born Meadow Lemon III, Lemon recalled making his first basketball hoop out of an onion sack and a coat hanger and using an empty can of Carnation milk to sink his first two-point shot, according to Lemon’s website.

He played college basketball at Florida A&M and was drafted into the Army for two years before he applied to join the Globetrotters in 1954. Lemon said he had seen the Globetrotters playing on newsreels, passing the ball to the tones of the distinctive “Sweet Georgia Brown,” and was struck by the all-black squad. Black players were still a novelty on the court, the NBA having only integrated in 1950.

“When they got to the basketball court, they seemed to make that ball talk,” Lemon said during his Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame induction speech in 2003. “I said, ‘That’s mine. This is for me.’ I was a receiving a vision. I was receiving a dream in my heart.”

The determined Lemon began playing for the team in 1955

Lemon changed his first name to the distinctive “Meadowlark” in the 1950s because, he later said, “The birds named meadowlark are known for their sweet and happy songs. I always tried to put a song in the hearts of my fans.”

Over the next 22 years, Lemon was the most visible member of the Globetrotters during an era when their popularity rivaled that of most NBA teams. Their barnstorming tour took them across America and around the world. Those who couldn’t get tickets could watch their regular appearances on ABC’s “Wide World of Sports.”

Lemon left the Globetrotters in 1978 amid a contract dispute. He later formed his own barnstorming teams, with names like the Bucketeers and the Shooting Stars. He continued to play the sport well into his 70s.

As his basketball career wound down, Lemon became an ordained Christian minister, creating his own self-named evangelistic organization in 1994.

In addition to Cynthia, Lemon is survived by his ten children.

“I want you to always remember that life’s most meaningless statistic is the half time score,” Lemon said on his website, “and as far as I’m concerned it’s always half-time.”

David Spade Thinks President Obama Is Too ‘Thirsty’

Categories: Uncategorized

dsDavid Spade has criticized President Barack Obama for being a little too “thirsty” for the spotlight.

In a new video posted by TMZ on Sunday, the comedian voices his opinion about the president and first lady appearing on reality TV, magazine covers and talk shows. (“Michelle Obama’s on ‘Ellen’ more than I am,” Spade notes.)

“What president is doing reality shows?” Spade asks in the clip, adding, “I thought a president should have a little more dignity [than that].”

He also criticizes Obama’s recent GQ magazine cover, saying that the president should “leave that to Bradley Cooper” because, as POTUS, he’s already “above all of us.”

In general, Spade considers the Obamas “a bit thirsty” for his own tastes, but admits that we’re just living in a different time.

“It’s just a new world. I’m not used to it. It just seems a bit thirsty for me, that’s all,” he says. “I think they’re going to do fine, but they’re plotting [for] after the White House.”

His final words of wisdom to POTUS?

“All right, guy. Relax, you got it.”

This is the second time this month the comedian has criticized Obama. On Dec. 14, Spade shared a tweet with his followers wondering “wtf” the president was doing on Bear Grylls’ reality show.

Bill Cosby Claims To Be Legally Blind

Categories: Uncategorized

ccDisgraced TV legend Bill Cosby is attempting to turn a blind eye to the rape allegations make against by former supermodel Beverly Johnson, has exclusively learned.

The Jell-O pitchman has secretly admitted in court documents that he is “legally and functionally blind.”

The 78-year-old — accused of being a serial knockout drug rapist that has attacked about 100 women over a 43-year period — has suffered from vision problems due to glaucoma, it can be revealed.

But Cosby is also battling keratoconus — a disorder that alters the shape of the corneas. The condition causes his images to distort, multiply or streak.

“Bill doesn’t want to make an issue of his eye condition, but it’s a real concern to his family and friends,” a source told Radar.

“I think his pals and family are greatly alarmed at his bug-eyed appearance.”

Cosby, who won three Emmys for his role in the 1960s series I-Spy and became American’s favorite dad in his sitcom The Cosby Show, is now using his condition in a bid to defend himself.

Radar can reveal the condition was mentioned in a 14-page defamation lawsuit he filed against Johnson in Los Angeles County Superior Court on Dec. 21 accusing her of making up the rape case to generate publicity for an autobiography she was promoting.

Johnson, 63, has charged Cosby drugged her with a cup of coffee in is Manhattan townhouse in the 1980s and the model, who was popular in the 1970s and 1980s, had to fend off his aggressive advance.

Calling the allegations “malicious, opportunistic, false and defamatory,” the lawsuit also claimed Johnson falsely accused her two previous boyfriends of abuse.

And in apparent attempt to highlight the comic’s frail condition, the lawsuit accused Johnson of lying in her memoirs about a 2015 encounter with Cosby at an airport where he appeared shocked about seeing her.

The lawsuit claimed: “Mr. Cosby has suffered from a degenerative eye condition for years which has steadily worsened recently to the point that he is for over a year has been legally and functionally blind.”

Renowned New York City criminal defense attorney Murray Richman told Radar Cosby is pulling out the going blind card because he wants to show that he has a “disability that makes him physically incapable of doing all those things that he has alleged to have done.”

“It’s a bullshit defense,” said Murray, who has represented Jay-Z and other prominent clients in his 52-year legal career. “The jury isn’t going to buy that.”

Peyton Manning Doping Scandal

Categories: Uncategorized

pmAn explosive documentary alleges that Peyton Manning used illegal performance-enhancing drugs in 2011 to improve his football game. The shocking allegations were revealed during an undercover probe, and Peyton may not be the only athlete involved.

Al Jazeera released a documentary online called The Dark Side on December 27, the cumulation of countless hours of investigatory work looking into the epidemic of athletes using performance enhancing drugs in global sports. During their investigation, NFL star Peyton Manning’s name allegedly popped up as one of the prominent users of the illegal substances. The documentary reports that Peyton was supplied with human growth hormones by a pharmacist at the Guyer Institute in Indianapolis in 2011, who spoke to uncover athlete Liam Collins about the matter. At the time, Peyton was playing for the Indianapolis colts and recovering from surgery. The pharmacist, Charlie Sly, later recanted his statements to both Al Jazeera and ESPN.

Steroids were allegedly shipped to Peyton’s house under the name of his wife, Ashley Manning, so that there was no trail connecting him to the institute. The quarterback and his wife also allegedly visited the clinic after hours, according to Charlie. With the report out in the open, Charlie has vehemently denied that any of the athletes named, including Peyton, Derek Jeter, Ryan Howard and James Harrison, had ever taken HGH.

Charlie claims that he was “testing” Liam in order to see if he was really there to receive hormones, or just being nosy about the business. He claims that he wasn’t being serious, and that Al Jazeera reported patent falsehoods. Yikes! The network is sticking with their story though, despite the fact that Peyton and his agent are denyong any and all allegations fiercely.

“For the record, I have never used HGH. It absolutely never happened. The whole thing is totally wrong. It’s such a fabrication, I’m not losing any sleep over it, that’s for sure,” Peyton told ESPN’s Chris Mortensen on December 26. “Yes, I have been a patient under Dr. Guyer. I have had nutrient therapy, oxygen therapy and other treatments that are holistic in nature but never HGH.

“My wife has never provided any medication for me to take,” Peyton continued. “Ashley and I never attended the clinic together after hours. There were times when I went in the morning and there were times when I went after practice so this thing about ‘after hours’ is so misleading because it may have been 5:15 pm because their office closed at 5.”

Robert Downey Jr. Has Been Pardoned

Categories: Uncategorized

rdCalifornia’s governor has pardoned Robert Downey Jr. for a 1996 drug conviction that sent the actor to prison.

Gov. Jerry Brown’s office announced Thursday that Downey was among 91 people receiving pardons.

Downey was convicted of felony drug possession after he was arrested on a Los Angeles County highway and authorities found heroin, cocaine and a pistol in his vehicle.

In 1999, he was sent to prison for nearly a year after he acknowledged violating his probation.

Downey’s life and career have rebounded, and he stars as “Iron Man” in Disney’s films based on the Marvel comic books.

An email to Downey’s publicist, Allison Garman, wasn’t immediately returned.

Brown’s website says that while a pardon doesn’t erase records of a conviction, it restores voting rights and is a public proclamation that the person has demonstrated “exemplary behavior.”
